The practice of keeping macaques as pets and featuring them in social media content has been criticized by animal welfare groups. A report by the Social Media Animal Cruelty Coalition (SMACC) highlighted that macaques used in social media often suffer physical and psychological abuse. The report documented numerous instances where these animals were subjected to distressing situations for the sake of entertainment, leading to long-term harm.
